From Florida to New York, twenty two paintings bravely made the trip back from their solo exhibition, Lyrical Abstraction, at the Coral Springs Museum of Art @coralspringsmoa. A stressful, but exciting, day at Jill Krutick Fine Art!
It's Trout Season!
Every day I am thankful for my loving family. Part of nurturing that love is fanning everyone's passion. Beyond painting for me and singing for my daughter, there is fishing. My husband and son are joined at the hip as they both share a deep passion for fishing. Many adventures and eco travel over the past decades have revolved around fishing -- from Galapagos (most recently) to Australia, New Zealand, Panama, Montauk, the Bahamas and Miami (to name a few)! My son, Captain Wylie, runs a fishing charter business out of Miami. Capturing the pure joy of fishing on Wylie's face with the catch of the day always warms my heart.
Wylie asked me to paint an abstract series on trout -- some of the most beautiful fish in the world. Turns out the perfect opportunity to do that just recently came to pass... a solo museum exhibition at the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings, Montana...home to some of the best trout rivers!! I went to work and focused on the four that Wylie identified -- Rainbow, Brook, Brown and Cutthroat Trout. Hope you enjoy this set of 18 x 24" oil paintings. It was a joyful exercise connecting to the world that my son holds dear.
Happy Earth Day!
Highlighting the Noctiluca scintillans bloom that is currently plaguing the Arabian Sea, this rapid-growing algae has captured the attention of scientists Helga do Rosario Gomes, Joaquim Goes and their team at the Columbia University Lamont Laboratory. I was so honored to be able to commemorate the ground breaking research being done by this outstanding group. This deadly species, known for its bioluminescence, is so bright and widespread that it can be seen from space. My daughter, Zoe Berg, worked at the lab last summer and had conducted her senior thesis on this critical work.
This 36 x 48 inch oil painting, called “Sea Sparkle,” is an impression of one of the several satellite images captured by NASA.
ALBUM | THE FEMININE SUBLIME: Georges Bergès Gallery
This month, the Georges Bergès Gallery opened the Spring season with a very rare opportunity to experience an exhibition from world-renowned art critic and historian Donald Kuspit. Few critics within the art world have the intellectual and historic weight that Kuspit has—a lion of the art world.
The Feminine Sublime exhibition highlights and explores female abstract artists in contemporary art. Don’t miss this very rare opportunity to see first hand the curatorial work of Donald Kuspit this Spring. Jill Krutick will be one of six of the featured artists. She will be exhibiting “The Giving Tree, 5, 2019” and “Ice Cube Black & Red, 2016.”
DONALD KUSPIT
Donald Kuspit was the winner of the prestigious Frank Jewett Mather Award for Distinction in Art Criticism (1983) given by the College Art Association and is a Contributing Editor at Artforum, Artnet Magazine, Sulpture and Tema Celeste, and the editor of Art Criticism. He has doctorates in philosophy and art history, as well as degrees from Columbia, Yale and Pennsylvania State University. He has received fellowships from Fulbright Commission, NEA, Guggenheim Foundation and Asian Cultural Council, among others. Kuspit has written more than twenty books, including The End of Art (2004); Redeeming Art: Critical Reveries (2000); Idiosyncratic Identities; Artists at the End of the Avant-Garde(1996); Daniel Brush: Gold without Boundaries (with Ralph Esmerian and David Bennett, 1998); Reflections of Nature: Paintings by Raffael (with Amei Wallace, 1998); and Chihuly (1998). He has written numerous art reviews, including critiques on Hunt Slonem, Maurizio Cattelan and April Gornik.

"Chasing the Invisible": The Inspiration
Chasing the Invisible is a work that took me on a long journey. Through its beginning stages, I felt as though its composition was missing a critical component. Eventually, I moved the painting into a work closet (as I sometimes do when I am unsatisfied with the direction of a piece) to give myself space from it.
Soon thereafter, my daughter performed her first original Pop song called “Chasing the Invisible,” a revealing tune with a shimmering quality to it. After several days of repeatedly listening to the enchanting tune, the vision hit me. I took the canvas out of the closet and used her song as the pillars of the budding narrative.
Finally, the story of a girl who confronts the reality that her lover was just a figment of her imagination—an “invisible” person built from lonely thoughts and deep desires, emerged. The elements of the original painting that couldn’t “sing” on their own suddenly had a pure and convincing voice.
This piece has since become one my favorites.

Jill S. Krutick is the featured artist in the main gallery at the Coral Springs Museum of Art from March 16 - May 18, 2019. The Opening Reception was held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 6pm in the main gallery of the museum. This event was free and open to the public.
The exhibition was curated by Bruce Helander, an art critic, arts writer, curator and artist whose specialty is collage and assemblage. He has a master’s degree in painting from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, where he later became the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of the college. He is a former White House fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts and has won the South Florida Cultural Consortium fellowship for professional achievement in the visual arts.

Our fondest memories are often our most colorful…
This large scale painting celebrates our sea’s coral reefs, a spectacular wonder of earth’s natural treasures. Threatened by the effects of global warming, “bleaching” occurs when the natural algae and other organisms that provide color, are expelled from the coral, turning it white. However, there is hope: if sea conditions are reversed in time, the coral can return to full health—and may not be lost to all but a vibrant memory. It is no coincidence that the name of this painting also shares the name of a bitter sweet movie filled with hope and love.
Before & After!
Big changes are happening in the studio!
Now that all the featured paintings for the Coral Springs Museum of Art, Lyrical Abstraction, solo exhibition have been lovingly shipped to Florida for their debut next week (March 21st at 6pm), the studio has a fresh new look.
We have a "before the shipment" and "after the shipment" view of the studio to show you! The "before" has been done as a virtual tour to give you the fullest sense of walking through the studio, which includes many of the featured works in the museum show. The "after" are some wonderful photos that capture the new look of the space and some recent work that was just completed.

Behind the scenes with Stick Figure Productions!
We had the pleasure of having an award-winning film/television director, Steven Cantor, filming at Jill Krutick Fine Art recently. Seven of Steven’s films have been nominated for Emmy Awards — with one winning — and he was nominated for an Academy Award for his first film. Steven was joined by his talented crew from Stick Figure Productions, Casey Regan and Jono Field. The team is producing a documentary about artist Jill Krutick. Stay tuned for updates on this very special project!

We are excited to share a project we’ve been working on over the past few months: a virtual 360 degree walk-through of Jill Krutick Fine Art! Navigate the gallery with the touch of a mouse and visualize the hanging paintings as if you were there. If you’ve been unable to visit the space in person, we’ve made this with you in mind!
How to navigate the space: next to each painting are color-coded buttons that reveal a high-definition image, a description, and an overview for each painting series. Click and drag your mouse to view the room around you. There are points on the floor that allow you to “walk” through the space. For an automated walk-through, click the play button in the bottom left corner of the screen.
